The
Relevant Skill Set For Success
Quote Of The Day

“It is our attitude at
the beginning of a difficult task which,
more than anything else, will affect its
successful outcome.”
William James |
As
you already know attitude plays a key role in your
pursuit of success. Nevertheless, even the most
enthusiastic and overtly positive sales person will
fall short of their goal if they aren’t educated
properly about what they are selling and who they
are selling to. So obtaining the right skill set is
essential.
You
don’t have to have a Master’s degree in order to be
successful—you don’t even have to have a Bachelor’s
degree! Many highly qualified people are never
truly successful because qualifications become
totally irrelevant if your attitude and aptitude are
poor.
It
doesn’t matter if you want to be a company president
or a car mechanic - your educational requirements
are very specific. Regardless of how highly
qualified you are, if you cannot educate, motivate
and inspire others, you are very unlikely to end up
as a successful company president. Similarly, if
you are a car mechanic but don’t keep up to date
with the latest engine technology and understand the
new computerized systems used in them, you too are
unlikely to ever be regarded as truly successful in
your field.
However, in some careers, education does not appear
to be particularly relevant - professional sport
being a prime example. And even though young
athletes are encouraged to complete their education
“in case you get injured”, most youngsters go “pro”
as quickly as they can, and don’t complete their
schooling.
But
just think, if a professional sportsman were
actually to graduate in business studies before
turning “pro”, consider a how much better equipped
he would be to take advantage of all the celebrity
endorsements that were to come his way as well as
being able to understand and negotiate his own
contracts much more effectively.
Also, if he did get injured and had to retire from
professional sport prematurely, he not only has a
qualification to fall back on, but also the
credibility of actually having played as a
professional would enable him to set up in a
business that complimented his love of sport a lot
more easily. And, if he brought the same attitude
and discipline that he had as a professional
sportsman to his business dealings, how much more
likely do you think that it is that he would also
succeed in business.
Education to acquire a specific skill set must be
preceded by a high level of motivation. If you truly
want to succeed in any field you might choose, you
must pursue the necessary education before you can
achieve success. That links in to your attitude. If
you excel at your chosen field and can display a
great grasp of the skills necessary in your line of
work, you WILL succeed, because people are always on
the lookout for individuals who display the success
hallmarks of education, discipline and
determination.
