"Scoring" Success Goals
Quote Of The Day
|
|
"Without goals, and plans
to reach them, you are like a ship that
has set sail with no destination."
Fitzhugh Dodson |
“Genius” has been described as the “ability to focus
on one thing at a time.” Many people who are
considered “geniuses” are thought of as such just
because they have a high intellect, but also because
they enjoy the gift of being able to focus on and
achieve specific objectives or goals at hand.
This
same degree of focus must come in to play when
determining what your goals are in relation to your
own success. You need to learn how to work towards
one major objective whilst juggling a few other
short and mid-range goals simultaneously.
One
way to determine what direction you are heading in
(and ultimately your goals are) is to do a check-up.
For this purpose you should download our special
goal scoring plan
First of all you should map out 7 main headings
including: Health & Well-Being, Wealth & Finances,
Family & Relationships, Business & Career, Wisdom &
Learning, Personal Happiness, Spirituality &
Destiny. (You can include more if you want to!)
List
3 goals in each category that you would both like to
achieve and are committed to pursuing firstly within
the next year, then within the next 3 years, then 5
years and then finally within 10 years. Remember:
-
Set goals that are smart and ensure that big
goals are broken down in to smaller manageable
chunks. Don’t think how you will achieve your
goals, just keep you eyes and ears open so that
you are receptive to any ideas that the universe
will provide when you are ready for them.
-
Identify what it will mean to you to achieve
each goal and how it will help you in the future
and award yourself a prize for achieving each
goal.
-
List potential obstacles that might stand
between you and your goal and then outline what
resources you can obtain in order to help you to
overcome those obstacles. If you do not consider
potential problems, you will be easily
side-tracked and upset when they arise and are
more likely to give up.
-
Find a coach or mentor who can guide you and who
you are prepared to be accountable to in order
to ensure that you keep moving forward.
-
Think about who else you know who can help you
achieve your goal. Identify friends and family
who will support and encourage you (especially
when the going gets tough) and who can provide
motivation for you.
-
List the attributes, skills and knowledge of
anyone you know who has already achieved a
similar goal so that you know what is required
to attain your goal.
-
Develop an ordered plan of action that moves you
through a series of steps to the achievement of
your goal.
-
Set a deadline by which you are committed to
achieving your goal because it’s hard to achieve
something without a deadline. However, do
consider that it is unlikely that you will
master all the necessary skills/attributes
instantly and therefore should allow suitable
time to practice and master them.
As
you consider your goals, ask yourself the following
questions:
-
Is this really my goal?
-
Is this morally right and fair to everyone
involved?
-
Does each small goal take me closer to my
ultimate long-range goal?
-
Am I truly committed to starting and reaching
this objective?
-
Can I vision myself attaining this goal?
You
should answer yes to each of these questions. If
not, re-evaluate or chunk down into smaller
achievable goals!
And
then give each goal a final test of the “basic
wants” in life:
-
Will it make me happier?
-
Will it make me healthier?
-
Will it make me wealthier/more prosperous?
-
Will it increase my feeling of security?
-
Will it make people proud to know/be associated
with me?
-
Will it give me peace of mind?
-
Will it enhance my family (and other)
relationships?
-
Will it make me a better person?
-
Does it truly inspire me to take action towards
its achievement every day?
If
you can’t answer yes to each of these questions,
then take a closer look at whether it is exactly the
right goal for you.
